Who Are We and Why Are We Headed for Shamrock?

We met online in 2005 trying to--what else--lose weight. We've had our ups and downs along the way, but we're not where we want to be. This is our journey to get fit and healthy. We invite you to follow us as we "exercise" our way across the country--track our progress on the map to Shamrock below-- in an effort to each lose 50 pounds by the end of 2009 and adopt a healthier lifestyle along the road.

Where will we go once we reach our goals? The sky's the limit... but we're thinking Greece would be nice.

A Tale of Two Birthday Gifts

Okay, so today is my 39th birthday. It's been a pretty good day. I actually got up and exercised at 6am (after nursing the baby). I only walked a mile on the treadmill but it's the first time I've been on that thing in forever. I actually hate treadmills. But I have a new fitness toy as of today....a Wii Fit. I got on it tonight and tried out a few things. Pretty fun. I could so much more easily wake up to do that than to hit the treadmill. That was a great gift.

Now for the other gift. Don't get me wrong, it was great too. But it wasn't very healthy. My dear husband, Neo, made dinner for me. Get this....Filet Mignon with Sauteed Mushrooms and a Roquefort Cheese Sauce and Cornmeal-Buttermilk Onion Rings. It. was. so. good. Well, except for the sauce. Neither of us had ever had Roquefort cheese, and neither of us liked it. So, I guess I can deduct that guilt from the menu since we didn't eat it. I also made my own birthday cake. And it was....drumroll, please.....Cheesecake. My dad's recipe. I had actually never made it before, but I love cheesecake. And I figured if I was gonna have dessert it ought to be one of my favorites! It turned out pretty good and I had one piece. This is real life. An out of control Peggy Sue would have downed two pieces at least.

B: bran flakes, normal sized bowl this time
snack: 1 banana, 4 small cookies (from last night)
L: spinach/iceberg salad with cukes, asparagus, roasted chicken, shredded mozzarella, lite dressing
D: filet mignon (5-6 oz.), sauteed mushrooms, probably 6 large onion rings
dessert: 1 piece of homemade cheesecake
water: about 80 oz.
exercise: 1 mile on treadmill (19 minutes); 1.25 pedometer miles; 45 minutes of Wii
