Who Are We and Why Are We Headed for Shamrock?

We met online in 2005 trying to--what else--lose weight. We've had our ups and downs along the way, but we're not where we want to be. This is our journey to get fit and healthy. We invite you to follow us as we "exercise" our way across the country--track our progress on the map to Shamrock below-- in an effort to each lose 50 pounds by the end of 2009 and adopt a healthier lifestyle along the road.

Where will we go once we reach our goals? The sky's the limit... but we're thinking Greece would be nice.

Day 20: Daily Report

Breakfast
  • 2 ww waffles spread with pb and banana
Snack
  • sesame brown rice cake
Lunch
  • quesadilla- 2 corn tortillas, lf cheese, salsa
  • grapefruit
Snack
  • nf latte
  • 1 madeleine cookie
Dinner
  • 2 servings of zucchini, eggplant, carrot, tomatoes, basil, garlic, soy crumbles all cooked together served over 1/2 cup (total) pasta
Dessert
  • handful of raisins
Water
  • only about 50 oz
Exercise
  • 2 miles walking
Victories: Getting exercise in (after 8pm) on a crazy day. Dinner was a super yummy hodgepodge that son Indiana Jones declared "the best dinner you've even made in your life, Mom."

Defeats: I'm not going to freak out about the cookie, it wasn't very big, but I didn't really need it. I didn't get enough water in.

Observations: Today was crazy for a variety of technical reasons. But between all the craziness and the inauguration coverage I was glued to all day, I'm pretty happy with my 2 miles. It helps that the weather has been so nice here... while Peggy Sue is excited about her snow (and I would be, too!) I'm pretty excited about 70F in the middle of January!

Breakfast

  • 1 c. bran flakes with milk
Snack
  • 1 banana
  • 6 oz. Yoplait Boston Cream Pie yogurt, light
Lunch
  • 2 3" wide homemade rolls
  • 2 beef/turkey patties (total 4 oz.) with mustard
Snack
  • 1 banana
  • 3/4 c. diet mousse
  • 12 oz. hot chocolate
Dinner
  • 2 small ww tortillas, spinach, 3 Tbsp. cheese, 4 oz. roasted chicken breast, 1 Tbsp. Greek vinaigrette
Water
  • 80 oz.
Exercise
  • Wii Fit (boxing, step, balance): 45 minutes = 3 miles
  • Shimmy (belly dancing): 30 minutes = 2 miles
Victories: Getting more exercise in (and holding baby Elvis for part of it). Not eating after dinner. Getting my water in.

Defeats: Having more than one cup of hot chocolate. Not enough veggies.

Observations: We finally had a good snow today (we've been waiting for years to get a good one), and hot chocolate was a wonderful treat coming in from the cold. I am not beating myself up for hot chocolate, just for too much of it. It was so nice to watch the snow fall. We don't get much snow, so this was exciting. I'm not doing all that well with food. Maybe it's just too much too handle to worry about exercise and food right now...I don't know. But I know if I stick with the exercise, the food issues will begin to resolve themselves.
By the way, that Boston Cream Pie yogurt is sooooo good. I was so sore today from yesterday's exercise, so I took it easy with doing Wii Fit and belly dancing. Still a good workout though. And I never did put on my pedometer.

  1. Good for you on the exercise! I know it's been a challenge for you to get it done with Baby Elvis cryin' the blues.
