Who Are We and Why Are We Headed for Shamrock?

We met online in 2005 trying to--what else--lose weight. We've had our ups and downs along the way, but we're not where we want to be. This is our journey to get fit and healthy. We invite you to follow us as we "exercise" our way across the country--track our progress on the map to Shamrock below-- in an effort to each lose 50 pounds by the end of 2009 and adopt a healthier lifestyle along the road.

Where will we go once we reach our goals? The sky's the limit... but we're thinking Greece would be nice.

The Curse of Week Two

I love to watch The Biggest Loser. I love the transformations. I love to watch the trainers kick the contestants' butts (as I sit on the couch). I could do without the drama of game play. And the constant commercials, especially during the weigh-ins. And I'm sure the contestants could do without the dreaded week 2 curse.

What's that, you ask? After a slammin' week one weigh-in, most contestants in week 2 have a "bad" weigh in. Their bodies have suddenly realized that they are trying to lose major weight and have adjusted a bit, trying to hang on for dear life....seeing the weight loss as a threat to survival. Week 3 is always bettter.

Now, wouldn't I love to say that my less than stellar weigh-in this morning was due to my body freaking out about all the exercise and hard work I was doing. But it's not. I have to be honest. I didn't try very hard this week. I also have to not beat myself up, because it was a stressful week and I could've done so, so, so much worse. Obviously I have before, that's why I'm in this pickle.

I can boil this week's problems down to one word. Lack of planning. Okay that's three words. Anyway, lack of food planning is not even the main problem. A lack of planning in general, in all aspects of my life. I didn't get my homeschool lesson plans ready on the day that I usually do. We didn't get chores done on the day that we usually do. It's Thursday and I still have so much to do this week, and most of it should've been done already. What have I been doing? Taking naps with the baby. My body has still not recovered all the way from baby #5, and I really think I could sleep all day most days. I'm only 39, but since I had the baby my body feels so old. All this stuff piling up has really added to my stress level. And, Hello, my name is Peggy Sue, and I'm a stress-eater.

So anyway, after all that whining, what am I left with? This question: Peggy Sue, are you going to sit around and wait for the Weight Loss Fairy to change you to a thin, healthy person or are you going to get up off your butt and do it yourself?

I'm going to do it myself. And I'll get by with a little help from my friend, Betty Lou.

  1. We both could use a dose of that planning stuff everyone's talking about. It sounds like it works great and is definitely worth a try.

On the topic of naps with the baby, you're still recovering from giving birth. If you're tired, take it easy. And then get up and do 3.8 miles! It'll get better.
